Trophies and Cups

A documented record of
Trophies and Cups of
Wycombe Photographic Society

Compiled by Peter Davis
2019

Following an article published in the “Bucks Free Press”, in response to a letter from E.F. (Ted) Harman, High Wycombe Camera Club was formed on 1st September 1938, after an inaugural meeting which some twenty or so interested photographers attended. In the mid-nineties, the Club changed its name to High Wycombe and District Camera Club, to reflect the broader area from which members were drawn and, more recently, a further name change to Wycombe Photographic Society to capture a wider spectrum of photographic interests extending beyond the camera.

The Len Rentmore Cup

Len Rentmore - General Photographer, Slides & Prints - Loved travelling, especially in the UK in his caravan, particuarly in Yorkshire Dales. Took many pictorial images of distant fields, with dry-stone walls and old sheds/huts artistically placed. Also enjoyed taking table-top miniature items he set up and would help new members to photograph in practical sessions. Long-standing Club Members with a great sense of humour.

The Percy Thompson Trophy

Percy Thompson - Natural History and Architecture Photographer - one of founder members. As cup is for Architecture, maybe he was an architect. or enjoyed taking such images. Died fairly young (? In his 50s or 40s), as his widow Betty (whom Sue Carey, Past Exhibition Secretary  invited annually as a guest to the Annual Exhibition, until her death at 100) often said she had been a widow far longer than she was married to him. She really enjoyed being a VIP of the Club’s.
